Professor John Mumford

I have worked as an entomologist and agricultural economist for over 35 years, particularly supporting large-scale crop protection programmes, mainly in the tropics and developing countries. These involved pheromones, sterile insects and cultural management in tropical fruits, citrus, apples, cocoa, coffee, coconuts and cotton.

In recent years I have been working on methods of risk analysis for agricultural quarantine and invasive organisms, and on the regulation of genetically modified insects, such as fruit flies and mosquitoes.

As Professor of Natural Resource Management in the Centre for Environmental Policy at Imperial College London I also have a broader interest in environmental quality, energy efficiency, environmental security and the role of business and other social institutions in providing a sustainable environment.
